Platanus & Platanus Ventures
2021-2022
From the beginning of 2021 till the end of 2022, I led the design division of Platanus.
Platanus was a software factory that collaborated with major Chilean companies such as SQM, GrupoMok, and Crystal Lagoons. However, it was best known for its specialization in startups—helping founders bridge their technical gaps and build scalable products.
When I joined Platanus, there was no design team in place. I had to build one from the ground up, establishing a design culture, integrating design into Platanus’ processes, and setting a new standard for creating well-designed products. The goal was to make Platanus an industry example in Latin America. This involved hiring, managing, and mentoring a team of Product Designers and Design Managers, leading feedback sessions for startups, giving presentations in the startup ecosystem, and developing extensive documentation and guides to support anyone interested in design.
By the time I left, I had overseen the design of over 30 projects, working closely with developers and clients while also mentoring four batches of startups to help them craft the best possible products.
In 2020, Platanus launched a sister company, Platanus Ventures, an incubator aimed at accelerating local and Latin American startups. As of January 2024, Platanus has closed its software factory to focus exclusively on Platanus Ventures, which now took the original name: Platanus.
